Is It Time for New Tires? Know the Signs.

Knowing when it’s time to replace your tires is crucial for your safety and the performance of your vehicle. Here are some key signs that indicate it might be time for new tires:

1. Tread Depth is Low
Tread Wear Indicator Bars: Most tires have built-in tread wear indicator bars that become visible when the tread depth is 2/32 of an inch or less. If these bars are flush with the tread, it’s time to replace the tires.

The Penny Test: Insert a penny into the tread with Lincoln’s head upside down. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, the tread is too shallow, and you need new tires.

2. Uneven Tread Wear
If you notice that the tread is wearing unevenly (e.g., more on one side than the other), it could indicate alignment issues, improper inflation, or suspension problems. Even if the tread depth is still adequate, uneven wear can compromise safety and performance.

3. Cracks or Cuts in the Sidewall
Visible cracks, cuts, or grooves in the sidewall can be a sign that the tire is deteriorating. This can lead to a blowout, especially at high speeds.

4. Bulges or Blisters
If you notice any bulges or blisters on the sidewall, it’s a sign that the tire’s internal structure is damaged. This can lead to a sudden blowout and should be addressed immediately.

5. Vibration or Unusual Noises
Excessive vibration or unusual noises while driving can be a sign of tire issues, such as uneven wear, internal damage, or problems with the tire balance. If the vibration persists after balancing, it might be time for new tires.
