Here are some quick fixes for common everyday car issues that you can often handle yourself without a mechanic:
1. Dead Battery
Jump-start with jumper cables and another car.
Clean corroded terminals with baking soda + water and a wire brush.
Check connections—ensure they’re tight.
2. Squeaky Belts
Spray belt conditioner or rub a small amount of bar soap on the belt (temporary fix).
If the belt is cracked or frayed, replace it ASAP.
3. Low Coolant/Overheating
Let the engine cool, then top off coolant (use a 50/50 mix).
Check for leaks (white residue or puddles under the car).
4. Flat Tire
Use a tire repair kit (plug + sealant) for small punctures.
Inflate with a portable air compressor if just low on air.
5. Wipers Streaking
Clean the blades with rubbing alcohol or replace them.
Wipe the windshield with vinegar to remove residue.
6. Stuck Key in Ignition
Jiggle the steering wheel (might be locked).
Try a spare key (worn key may not turn).
7. Headlight/Taillight Out
Replace the bulb (check the owner’s manual for instructions).
If it’s a fuse, swap it with an identical one from the fuse box.
